Every patient’s journey is unique, and Jing Yi’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and hope. Chancing upon her social media posts sharing about her entire journey on Lemon 8, we reached out to her for an interview to learn more about her experience.

Health Journey

Jing Yi recounted her health struggles, starting with symptoms of a UTI that prompted her to seek medical attention. After multiple visits to various doctors, she was diagnosed with kidney issues, which were confirmed through a biopsy revealing significant kidney damage. She recalled how scared she was initially when she received the news and that she needed dialysis. After being diagnosed with renal failure, Jing Yi began dialysis at Diaverum Choa Chu Kang. Dialysis was essential in ensuring that she would be in the optimum condition to receive a transplant when the time comes.

Reflections on the Diaverum Experience

When asked about her option of dialysis centre, she mentioned that her renal physician, Dr. Roger Tan recommended Diaverum Choa Chu Kang to her. Despite the recommendation, she did her own due diligence to visit the various dialysis centre which were near to her place of residence. She explained her choice of Diaverum Choa Chu Kang, citing the clinic's cleanliness, supportive staff, and the positive environment as key factors in her decision, despite it being a 45 minutes bus ride from her home. She appreciated the flexibility in scheduling that allowed her to balance her full-time job with treatment. Jing Yi reflected positively on her experience with us, mentioning the warmth and friendliness of the staff and patients that made her feel assured every step of the way. She mentioned that the staff was attentive and proactive in addressing her medical needs, which contributed to her overall well-being as she prepared for her transplant.  She also stressed on the importance of cleanliness and staff supportiveness in healthcare settings. Jing Yi noted that although she was the youngest patient in the dialysis centre, she has also encountered other young patients in similar situations during her doctor visits.

Post-Transplant Reflections

She reported feeling better post-transplant compared to her time on dialysis, with increased energy levels, although she is managing medication side effects such as hair loss and a weakened immune system. Recounting on her transition from dialysis to transplant, Jing Yi emphasized the importance of self-care and adherence to treatment plans for those awaiting transplants. Despite the emotional challenges she faced, including anxiety about post-transplant complications, she expressed gratitude for her donor and the opportunity to adopt a healthier lifestyle. She also noted the lengthy wait times for transplants in Singapore.

Her story reminds us that dialysis is not just a treatment—it’s a bridge to better days. At Diaverum, we uphold our vision of True Care by ensuring every patient receives compassionate, high-quality care that supports them in their health journey. To those still on this path, know that you are not alone. We are here to support you every step of the way.
